Senator Abdul Haji Rallies Abokor Adam as Race for Governor Takes Shape

Garissa County Senator Abdul Haji has intensified grassroots consultations as he positions himself to succeed Governor Nathif Jama in 2027.

Mr. Abdul Haji met elders, religious leaders, professionals and youth drawn from his kins, the Abokor Adam family of the larger Sama community in a high-level consultative forum focused on unity, inclusivity and development on Thursday.

The senator said engaging young people reaffirms the need to place their voices at the centre of leadership and policy decisions.

“I was encouraged by the depth of their ideas and perspectives,” he said, pledging inclusive leadership that embraces all communities.

Mr. Abdul Haji also expressed support for the Kenya Kwanza administration.

He noted its recognition of pastoralist communities and their role in national development.

A seasoned political figure, Abdul Haji rose to national prominence during the 2013 Westgate Mall attack when he risked his life to rescue his brother, Noordin Haji, now Director-General of the National Intelligence Service.

Elected senator with 72,383 votes under the Jubilee Party, he consolidated cross-clan backing in a county where elders remain influential in shaping political direction.
