Wajir drills new borehole in Abdiwako village amid deepening drought

Residents of Abdiwako village in Wajir County are set to benefit from a newly drilled borehole as authorities step up drought response measures across the region.

The Department of Water Services said the borehole, successfully drilled this week, recorded a good yield and will soon be equipped and operationalised to supply clean and reliable water to the settlement, which previously had no access to a stable water source.

The project is part of wider drought mitigation efforts spearheaded by the county administration under the directive of Governor Ahmed Abdullahi. Officials say the intervention is aimed at cushioning vulnerable communities from the effects of prolonged dry conditions that have strained water access and livelihoods across northern Kenya.

The drilling exercise was led by Water Services executive committee member Issa Garore alongside technical officers from the department. County officials reaffirmed their commitment to expanding access to essential services, saying no community should be left behind despite the harsh climate challenges.
