Kenya Strengthens Youth, Agriculture and Regional Trade Under Ruto Administration

Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura has outlined key economic and social milestones achieved by the Kenya Kwanza administration under President William Ruto, citing progress in youth empowerment, social protection, agriculture, infrastructure and regional integration.

Speaking during his weekly press briefing, Dr. Mwaura announced the successful completion of grant disbursement under the Nyota National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Programme, which has distributed Sh2.586 billion to 121,800 young entrepreneurs across the country.

He said the initiative promotes transparency, accountability and inclusivity, extending support to persons with disabilities and refugee communities. Beneficiaries have also received business training, financial literacy education and mentorship.

The programme includes a six-month On-the-Job Experience apprenticeship targeting 90,000 vulnerable youth aged 18–29, with the age limit extended to 35 years for youth with disabilities.

Dr. Mwaura said the number of persons with severe disabilities receiving grants has increased to 63,938, while 438,804 orphans and vulnerable children and 1,213,214 senior citizens are benefiting from government cash transfer programmes.

He added that the government is implementing the Building Code 2024 and the Persons with Disabilities Act 2025 to enhance accessibility in public buildings, with the Older Persons Bill 2025 under development.In agriculture, the spokesperson announced the release of Sh4.1 billion for drought relief in affected counties.

He noted that over six million farmers are registered in the national database to access subsidized inputs, with nearly two million bags of fertilizer in stock and over two million already dispatched.

Additionally, 15.7 million e-vouchers have been issued, with hundreds of thousands redeemed by farmers.

Dr. Mwaura highlighted the 750-kilometre Isiolo–Mandera highway under the Africa Gateway Development Project, currently 45 percent complete, and the LAPSSET Corridor Project valued at Sh1.5 trillion, describing them as transformative investments aimed at boosting regional connectivity and economic growth.

The Government Spokesperson further projected economic growth above five percent and reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to the African Continental Free Trade Area, saying the country will host the East African Business and Investment Summit to advance regional trade and investment.
