Former Garissa Governor Ali Korane reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) at the grassroots level ahead of the 2027 national general election on following a meeting on Friday.
Amb. Ali Korane was joined by the Secretary General of the rulling party, Mr. Hassan Omar Hassan during the meeting with UDA grassroots aspirants from Garissa County.

The leader said the engagement focused on consolidating the party’s presence at the ward level and mobilising grassroots support.
He urged the aspirants—who were in the capital to attend the UDA Aspirants Forum hosted by President William Ruto at State House—to spearhead mass party membership registration and actively participate in the upcoming grassroots elections.
About 12,353 UDA aspirants for the 2027 General Election attended the meeting at State House, Nairobi.
They included 149 aspirants for governor position, 279 for Senate, 323 aspiring women representatives, 1,372 MPs, and 10,230 MCAs.
The second Governor of Garissa County said strong ward-level structures are critical to building a disciplined, competitive and sustainable political party.
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan commended the aspirants for their enthusiasm and commitment.
Mr. Hassan Omar encouraged grassroot leaders to remain engaged and to continue championing the party’s agenda within their respective wards.
The Secretary General emphasised the importance of youth participation in strengthening party structures and maintaining momentum at the local level.
Amb. Korane, who served as Garissa governor from 2017 to 2022, lost his re-election bid in the last general election to Nathif Jama of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
He has since left the Jubilee party for UDA amid growing political activity in the county as leaders and potential contenders begin positioning themselves ahead of the next election cycle.
The 2027 Garissa gubernatorial race is already shaping up to be highly competitive. Among those linked to the contest are Ambassador Mohamed Shidiye, former Principal Secretary Abdiqani Dubat, Garissa Senator Abdulkadir Mohamed Haji, Water Resources Authority Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Moulid Shurie, and National Syndemic Diseases Control Council chair Ahmed Ibrahim Abass, popularly known as Bishar Ijara.
